T-shirt Quilting

T-shirt quilts are a mixed bag. They sew-up pretty quickly because the pieces are large. They are challenging because I am challenged at sewing jersey. I find it rolls, stretches, and wanders under the sewing machine foot. This project is for the girlfriend of a friend. The friend recently made her girlfriend downsize the number of t-shirts in her wardrobe. There was some reluctance in parting with these t-shirts, which I totally understand. I have t-shirts that are ten years old and two in particular that are older than me. T-shirts have the rare ability to cross over from clothing to second skin. You wash them enough and they take on a tissue-like quality - there is nothing softer or more comforting. So rather than send these t-shirts off to Goodwill my friend sought me out to give them a second life as a quilt. These two lovely ladies will be moving in together soon (I think they have been together two-ish years?) So it is a very exciting time in the relationship and I love the idea of them snuggling up to watch movies under this quilt. So in that respect it is worth the challenge. I hope the final product lasts for many more washes, is mended and packed and unpacked, tossed on couches, used on guest beds, goes on picnics, and has a long and useful second life.
